7/23/2023 0 Comments Painting filters for photos![]() I promised to write a tutorial as soon there is a little time to do it properly. Tom.keil Sure, i made it with B&W sketch applied on a couple of layers and the combined. Very nice, but are you sure the bottom one is B&W sketch? Try out Artistic/Painting (example1) or Artistic/B&W sketch (example 2) or Contours/Segmentation and of course blend with textures according to taste. Some excellent filters for such projects you find in G´MIC plugin. Making a picture look like a painting is a very broad field, there are as many ways as there are different ways to paint a picture. Thanks for the tutorial! I used oilify with a few brightness contrast adjustments. I have been wanting to do something like this but no idea how to!! Shelly and Roy edited this topic ages ago. Also, adjusting the "exponent" downward seems to fix the rough edges. Thanks for the pointers, jeffegg2! I used your three-layers-of-painting idea. I used different amounts with each layer, with the finest on the bottom and corsest on top then layer masks on each to pass through details where needed.Īnd with a canvas effect: The original photo: I used three seperate layers with Layers->from visible. ![]() With using the Filter->Artistic->Oilify filter. ![]() This is without adding layers.ĭuplicate layer, then desaturate, then change the mode to darken only. To get round this a bit I have found that adding a gaussian blur and then sharpening reduces the chances of this happening. I have found that Oilify can add in some rather garish colours, especially in after-dark shots with lights in them. Puzzling religion edited this topic ages ago. The Radius setting will depend on how large an image you're doing and how coarse you want the paint strokes to be. I've been fiddling with my own ideas, and this pretty simple technique has given me results I like better:ĭuplicate Layer (or New From Visible, if you've got multiple layers already)įilters->Enhance->Despeckle, Adaptive OFF, Recursive ON, Radius 2, Black level -1, White level 256 FX-Foundry->Artistic->Water Paint Effect comes out looking like a blur with a few edges drawn in. Is there a good, simple filter for this? Filters->Artistic->Oilify is ok, but for some reason has noisy edges.
